The Code protects against discrimination in both oral and written contracts. It covers all types of contracts, such as buying a house or business.
For example, a condominium corporation cannot refuse to sell you a condo because you have children.
Information about wearing masks and mandatory Covid-19 vaccination
Disability has a specific meaning under the Code. The mere fact that you may have a disability does not necessarily mean that being required to wear a mask or take a vaccine is contrary to the Code. Every case must be assessed on its own facts. Please refer to the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s policy on discrimination based on disability for more information.
Creed (religion) also has a specific meaning under the Code. The mere fact that you may have a creed (religion) does not necessarily mean that being required to wear a mask or take a vaccine is contrary to the Code. Again, every case must be assessed on its own facts. Please refer to the Ontario Human Right’s Commission’s policy on discrimination based on creed for more information.
