Human Rights Legal Support Centre: Objects and Mission
The Human Rights Support Legal Centre (“Legal Centre”) is an independent agency funded by the Ontario Government through the Ministry of the Attorney General. The Legal Centre operates under the direction of a board of directors appointed by Lieutenant Governor in Council.
The objects of the Human Rights Support Legal Centre are set out in the Code as follows:
- to establish and administer a cost-effective and efficient system for providing support services, including legal services, respecting applications to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario; and
- to establish policies and priorities for the provision of support services based on its financial resources.
The Legal Centre opened its doors on June 30, 2008. The Legal Centre will establish its Mission and Core Values over the coming months.
Accessibility
The Legal Centre will provide a service that is free of barriers, including physical and functional barriers, barriers created by geography, language and by process.
Timeliness
The Legal Centre is committed to providing its services in a timely manner that will meet the needs of those who seek assistance and legal support.
Quality of Services
The Legal Centre will provide high quality legal services delivered by well-trained and committed staff.
Consultation
The Legal Centre is committed to consultation with the communities that it serves across Ontario.
Transparency
The Legal Centre will establish an open, transparent process for the development of its policies and service priorities.
