Information about wearing masks and mandatory Covid-19 vaccination

Disability has a specific meaning under the Code. The mere fact that you may have a disability does not necessarily mean that being required to wear a mask or take a vaccine is contrary to the Code. Every case must be assessed on its own facts. Please refer to the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s policy on discrimination based on disability for more information.

Creed (religion) also has a specific meaning under the Code. The mere fact that you may have a creed (religion) does not necessarily mean that being required to wear a mask or take a vaccine is contrary to the Code. Again, every case must be assessed on its own facts. Please refer to the Ontario Human Right’s Commission’s policy on discrimination based on creed for more information.

Many specific mask and vaccine situations are discussed in the OHRC's "Policy Statement on COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates and Proof of Vaccine Certificates" and in the Ontario Human Rights Commission‘s Q and A section of their website.

Supplementary information on vaccine mandates, masking and COVID-19 can be found in the HRLSC’s frequently asked questions section.
