Ontario's Human Rights System
Ontario’s human rights system changed on June 30, 2008. Under the new Human Rights
Code, a person who has experienced discrimination can file an application
directly at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. As of June 30, 2008, all new human
rights applications must be filed at the Tribunal, and not at the Ontario Human
Rights Commission.
The Ontario's human rights system is made up of three separate agencies. The Human Rights Tribunal is where human rights applications are filed and decided. The Human Rights Legal Support Centre gives legal help to people who have experienced discrimination under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The Human Rights Commission educates the public about discrimination.
